Auradon

Oui Sports - Winter Edition

Sports are a great way to warm up on a cold day, but sadly all the outdoor sports Ben was ready to teach... Well none of them play so well in a foot plus of snow. And that foot plus was after getting help from those with magic who could melt some of it down for them. And when Mal was asked about winter sports on the Isle the answer was "It's more like... gang activity, than sports. And if someone broke their leg, we kinda laughed, so... Not really applicable here."

So they instead asked the Missrecalled to show off games and sports that can be played in deep snow. But the best games need more than one person, so maybe you need to find someone to play with?

Happy Little Cleaning Song

After so long with so many people all cramped into the school for so long that there was more than a little bit of mess. They could use a hand clearing everything up. Whistling while you work and a spoonful of sugar were both advised. But cleaning was always a better task with a buddy! And Team Work Makes The Dream Work, right?

The Isle

Gang Activities

What had once been a dank and dreary school in a mausoleum was now an icy dreary one. The ground outside was a mix of ice, muddy slush, and rocks. Neither fun nor pretty. But it was probably safer outside than in, and easier to be active dodging doomstones than skidding down the halls into broken lockers. But it was still frigid out. Perhaps some activity would help warm you up. But what? And whom with? Snowball fights might be a little extra dangerous, with all the muck mixed in and no place to go warm up. But maybe someone might be up for it anyway? Or stealing a doomstone to sled down the roof? What are you gonna do to stay warm?

Got No Chill?

Someone decided that there needed to be a fire to warm people up. Maybe that would have been a good idea, if the person who had started the fire had anything clue about fire safety. They - or maybe you! - had started the fire in one of the classrooms using broken desks for kindling. But the fire quickly spread to the other desks in the room and with so much paper detritus in the halls! Stop the fire, warn people, run away! Pick you poison but do it fast, the way this fire's spreading, this school might not last!

"Not directly, I'm afraid." Now how did he know about the passages between worlds? She would have to find out carefully. On the other hand, there was some small chance that he was from one of her realities. "I don't suppose you've recently seen a rather tall person, broad shoulders, dark brown hair sticking up which way like he can't ever find his brush? His name's Terra, he wears an emblem like this," she said as she touched her own with her free hand. "Or a kid, a little shorter than me, maybe a year or two younger looking, spiky blond hair, would also be wearing the same symbol? He's Ven. I've been looking for them for a while now."

Sephiroth perked up immensely at this. "I haven't seen them, but I've heard of them," he said. "Zack spoke of them a great deal. He also talked of someone named Aqua. Would that be you? And would you have seen Zack, by any chance?"

Aqua gave him a warm relieved smile. "I am, and I have. Just... not very recently." She remembered their last conversation and wondered what he'd think if they met again. She might look the same, but given how much older she now was, in all practical ways, there was no way he'd be interested. He was a cute enough kid, but a kid for sure. She wished him all the best, whoever he wound up with.

He sighed to himself. She probably hadn't seen Zack ever since Sephiroth had spirited Zack away from Olympus Coliseum to train him after Phil still wouldn't.

Still, he asked just in case. "When was it you last saw him?"

"Time is... a little bit complicated for me these days. It is hard for me to say, exactly," she admitted apologetically.

"... I see. Have you been here long?" he wondered. Was being here what made time complicated?

"A few months," she said. "Not all that long at all, though hub worlds can mess with time that way as well, yes."

"Why have you been here that long? Are you unable to leave?" Sephiroth frowned. He wanted to get back home. He traveled a lot, but only when he wanted to. He hadn't planned on going anywhere when he'd been pulled away.

"Hub worlds can be like this. Each has their own reasons. But this is a long topic, and it is quite chilly out here. Would you be amenable to heading inside so we can sit while we talk? I can ask Mallia for some warm drinks, that should help with everything." Like how badly some people have reacted to the news that they were trapped...

"Yes, that would be fine," Sephiroth said. He rather suspected people might be being trapped here, since he was unable to teleport out, but there's always a solution somewhere. He will be determined to find it.

She nodded and led him inside, Keyblade gone as she began to walk. She led him past a sign that welcomed him to Auradon Prep into what looked like a castle. There was another castle nearby as well. Once they got in to the castle she was leading him to, however, the inside looked far more like a modern school dorm than anything else. A very clean school dorm. She stopped at the welcome desk on the way. "Phone, welcome pamphlet," she said, grabbing one of each for him and offering them. "If you don't know how to use this model of phone I can show you once we're settled. I can also help you find a room."

Sephiroth took it all in, memorizing what he could. He accepted the pamphlet and the phone and examined the latter. "It looks simple enough."

He looked around, wondering what the rooms were like. "I was unable to leave when I tried. Are we all bound here until further notice?"

"Yes," she said. "That is part of what I will explain once we are settled in. The cafeteria is this way. Unfortunately until the spring harvests, food is very scarce right now. Mallia has been using her magic to create food for us, but it only lasts for so long if uneaten, so we have been depending on her for meals. We are all very grateful to her."

He continued to follow her. "Magical food?" He hadn't ever tried that, but food was food. "You don't have any contact at all with other realms?" If they could even send messages, maybe other realms could help from the other side and break the barriers.

"Our hearts retain their connections, but aside from that... no. We cannot travel or communicate out. We do not know yet if when people return with their memories of here when they leave. So far those who have left have done so without warning and have not returned."

"Do you know why there's a barrier around everything?" Sephiroth asked. This was all very strange and very concerning. He didn't like it one bit and he wanted to do everything possible to fix it.

"It seems to be the nature of hub worlds," she said apologetically. They got to the cafeteria. "why don't you get a seat, and I'll get us some tea from Mallia. Anything to eat?"

"I'm fine, thank you," he replied. Right now he just wanted to learn what was going on. And he didn't like to take food if there was a shortage. Although he supposed if he would be here a while, he would need to later.

He moved to sit down.

She nodded and got herself a tea before going to join him. Sitting across from him she set her tea down. "Shall I start from the beginning regarding this particular hub world, or is there somewhere else you prefer me to start?"

"The beginning is a logical place to start," he said.

"Alright. So apparently a little over twenty years ago this world split between the self proclaimed good people, and those they considered to be evil. They sent the people they thought to be bad to a prison isle locked away with no magic. The kingdoms of the good united under the banner of Auradon. Then two or three years ago, the young prince of Auradon who was about to be the crowned king made his first decree. He decreed that the children of the villains on the Isle should be given a chance to come to Auradon to learn how to be good. Over the last few years more and more kids have been trickling in, and the king even fell in love with the daughter of a villain."

She took a breath, knowing this part would be hard for most people from where they were from. "Maleficent's daughter is here. And she's become a strong force for good. She is on the side of Light, though her methods aren't always obvious that way."

"Hmm." Sephiroth wasn't sure what he thought of all of this. It sounded like it could lead to a lot of unfair judgments on people.

"The prince had the right idea," he said at last. "The children had nothing to do with what their parents did."

He did take a moment to process this. "Maleficent almost destroyed my world," he said darkly. But the daughter would have been innocent of that. He looked intrigued at the description of her. "I'd like to meet her daughter," he mused in a more pleasant tone.

"You will. She's the Queen here," she said with a small smile. Then the smile fell as she resumed the story.

"They were letting more children from the Isle come over and had a plan to give the adults a chance to earn a way to get off the Isle through good deeds. But then someone got their hands on a genie's lamp. They apparently wished that there wouldn't be so many people in Auradon. Well, they got their wish as everyone in Auradon - and the Isle - vanished except the genie herself. And that included whoever made the wish. The Genie, desperate, used her power to bring back the King, the Queen, and a few of the stronger wizards. Yen Sid and Merlin. They argued about how to fix things, because she couldn't just undo a wish so easily. But while they were all arguing and debating both the Genie and Merlin decided to just try on their own there was a backlash that knocked the Genie out and started drawing people from different times and realities here to repopulate the world."

That was an interesting surprise.

Sephiroth listened to the rest of the story with a frown. "And no one knows where the people who are supposed to be here went? Maybe they ended up in worlds such as ours."
