Auradon

Take It or Leaf It

Autumn had begun to set in in Auradon. Normally, for the residents of Auradon Prep it would be a time for bonfire parties, drinking mulled cider, certain dances, festivals, and other seasonal events; as well as chatting about the latest fashion trends in jackets and scarves. But with the current situation and the lack of groundskeepers, Autumn meant that it was time for something else: raking leaves. There were quite a few trees on the grounds and most of them had been turning a variety of bright, fiery colors over the past two weeks. And as was usual for the season, those leaves were rapidly beginning to cover the ground. Which for better or worse meant that it was time for the Misrecalled to grab some rakes and get to work. At least there'd be one - or more - awesome leaf piles for anyone inclined to jump into one at the end of it.

Going Nuts

It wasn't all bad news though. Because while none of the trees on the grounds bore any seasonal fruit, a few of them did bear nuts. And with the coming of cooler weather, those nuts were ripe for the harvesting, many of them beginning to drop off the trees. So those not up to raking could grab a basket and go out to do their best impression of a squirrel, gathering nuts to store away for later. The results would both be tasty and a welcome addition to the school's food supply.

Isle

Holding On the Line

Most of the Isle's food supply these days came from the sea. Which, for many of its residents, meant that their days were often spent staring at a line in the water, waiting and hoping for a nibble. This was dull enough at the best of times assuming one wasn't an avid fisherman, but even more so when the fish were being uncooperative. And the latter was definitely the case today, with most of those fishing having not had a bite in hours. Did that prompt complaints? The desire to give up and go take a nap? Pointed critiques of each other's fishing technique? Or were you one of the lucky buggers who actually caught something and you're in the mood to gloat about it to the others to annoy them?

Heck for Leather

If there was one staple of Isle fashion aside form its general raggedness, it was the inclusion of leather. And why not? After all, leather was sturdy, hard wearing, and a must for pirates and punks alike. It made one look cool and tough and totally not like they had escaped from the set of a made for TV movie aimed at teens and tweens. But with access only to what was left in the lockers, it was in somewhat limited supply. There was, however, a solution to this; making their own. The recent killing of party-crashing alligator had provided not only meat but a tough, scaly hide ripe for leather making. With a bit of help from Yen Sid's chemistry supplies and some good old fashioned elbow grease of course.

Or if leather wasn't one's style, there was also the bones and teeth. After all, nothing said 'heck yeah, I'm a villain' quite like a few skeletal accessories. And they would also make for some very handy tools if one knew how to shape them. So many possibilities, so few alligator bits...

She reached up to her hood. "Sh... should we know... first.. if you can see me this time?" she asked, in a whisper.

"Why wouldn't I be able to see you? I have eyes don't I?" Roxas could picture Xion's face in his mind. Smiling, frowning, angry. Mostly he could picture her laughing from behind a sea salt ice cream. She'd said 'this time'... The last sunset he'd seen her on the clock tower, had she turned into Sora? She didn't sound like Sora now though, she sounded like herself. He was sure when she took down her hood he would see her choppy black hair and blue eyes.

"Because you couldn't always... not at the end..." she whispered. "And because others... can't sometimes." Most of the time. Her hands fell away. "I'm scared...."

"Don't worry. I know I'll be able to." He smiled broadly in an attempt to be reassuring. "Trust me, I've got your face memorized." He leaned toward her, a finger tapping his temple, with his best attempt at mimicking Axel's voice.

She couldn't help but giggle a little at that. "Please... don't leave," she all but begged.

"Huh?" He straightened back up, letting his arm fall back to his side. "I won't. Not without you." Now that his memories of her were slowly starting to return, he never wanted to be separated from her again. Him, Xion, and Axel. The three of them would stay together forever. He would make sure of it.

She moved closer to grab his sleeve. Clinging with a single hand.

He nodded at her, his face portraying all of his surety and determination. He was trying to be extra strong, since Xion couldn't seem to find quite enough of her own strength at the moment. He could be sure enough for the both of them.

She gave him a small smile from under her hood. "Let's find Axel, okay?" she whispered. Maybe it would be better if Axel was there before she took her hood down. Just in case.

Roxas felt that spot in his chest tighten just a little bit, but tried not to let it show in his face. It wasn't that she didn't trust him- he hoped- she just needed a bit more time. Besides, he was excited to see Axel again, mostly. He was. He just... Didn't know what he would say to the redhead. There last encounter certainly hadn't been ideal...

"In the next life..." He said it under his breath, more a reassurance to himself than intended for Xion's ears. He smiled back at her. "Okay, let's find Axel."

"In the next...?" she started to ask. And then as usual jumped to the wrong conclusion in the worst way. "Are... are you dying... Roxas?" she asked, terrified. Her hand closed on his sleeve more tightly, as though somehow that could keep him there and as well as a Nobody could hope to be.

"What?! Why would I-" He realized Xion must've heard his words. He grabbed onto her hand where she was trying to strangle his sleeve.

"I'm not dying Xion. It was just... Something Axel said to me. The last time I saw him. We kind of got into a fight. It's complicated..." He trailed off into a sigh. He looked away from her, his grip on her hand slackening. "I want to see him. I really do. I'm just worried things will be... Different." That Axel wouldn't forgive him.

"Different scares me too," she said. "But Axel will want to see you. We're best friends, right?" She asked, looking at him desperately.

He couldn't help but smile just a little bit at her insistence. Though he wasn't quite ready to lift his head. "Right. Best friends. Forever."

She nodded. "I don't know why.... why you keep appearing and vanishing..." she said, still clinging. "But no matter what we're always best friends. Even when you don't remember," she added softly.

Roxas nodded. He may always seem to be a step behind, but as long as he kept running, eventually he would catch up, right? "Then let's go find Axel."

She nodded and started walking, not letting go of his sleeve. "We... we need to see if I drain you here..." she whispered. "If I do... I won't use magic or my Keyblade or anything..." she promised.

He followed after her. An image surfaced in his mind at her comment. Xion's face, stoically blank as she stared at him. 'Roxas, that's a stick.' He remembered that stretch of time, how exhausted he'd felt. It made more sense in his head as Xion shaped puzzle pieces slotted back into place. "Thank you. Just... make sure you look out for yourself too, okay? I'll be fine."

She shook her head. "So long as you and Axel are with me and okay... I don't matter..." not how she meant to say it, but it meant about the same thing.

He frowned at her. "Xion, don't say that. You matter. You matter to me and Axel. We're only okay if you're okay. Think of it like that if you have to." He would rather she could see that she mattered because she was important, but that seemed like a big conversation, and he was exhausted from everything else today. He needed to make sure she wouldn't do anything stupid, like not protecting herself because she thought it might hurt Roxas.

Oh a very very big conversation. One Lea and Vexen have been working with her for a while.

She closed her eyes, hand tightening on his arm. "It's my turn to protect the two of you," she whispered.

Roxas didn't have anything to say to that. It seemed to him like they all should be protecting each other. He followed after her and made a silent promise that he wouldn't let her do any sacrificing. Not for him, or anyone.

Since he wasn't arguing, she went back to leading, looking for Axel. Hopefully he wasn't with a lot of Somebodies... "There... are Somebodies here who say they know us," she said softly, realizing that she should warn Roxas.
