Auradon

Food Fright!

Fresh food stores have been running low! And with a focus on trying to get to the Isle rather than to farms or stores... the pickings are getting kind of slim. Well, there was enough shelf stable food to feed a whole school and castle worth of people, but is it really worth anything without fresh fruit and ice cream? Maybe you drew the short straw and have to make a meal with this. Or maybe this is a ton of food and you're sick of the griping and determined to make a meal they'll never forget out of the "scraps" they all turned their noses up at. Or maybe you just popped in to get a snack and someone else was already cooking. No matter what the story is, the kitchen is a little weird right now. So... how hungry are you?

Zen And The Art Of The Lawn

One of the first things most people noticed when they arrived at Auradon Prep was the perfectly manicured vibrantly green lawns. Well, now that some time has passed without a staff, the lawns are starting to look a little... not perfect. The king mentioned in passing that he was trying to figure out a solution, that while he knew there were other priorities he still wanted to fix this problem. And being the do-gooder you must be to land here... Well, perhaps you have some ideas how to mow and revitalize the landscaping?

The Isle

Un-Fun House Hall Of Mirrors

Somehow you wandered into Mother Gothel's office and it is just amazing. Oh, no sorry, it is just a maze. Of mirrors. It is hard enough to find a way out, but a glimpse of a face that isn't yours tells you that you might not be alone here after all....

Homeschool

Doc F, the headmaster gave everyone what might have been a homework assignment, if any of the students could actually make it home. But since everyone was trapped in the school, he decided to have everyone make it home in a different way. The current assignment was to make some part of the school feel more like it belonged to you. Make your mark. Claim your space. He made available spray paint and markers and all sorts of things most adults didn't want you using on school property. But then, the headmaster wasn't most adults, was he?

Rren covered their mouth, very nearly startled into a laugh. "Umm. He did his best? Also, remind me to show you a holo of him when we are out of this script."
ian_never_wrong: (Happily working)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"Alright..." Ian said, not getting the joke. "And I am certain that he did. Really it is amazing how much he accomplished, all things considered." Then a small smile at Rren. "You are amazing. Even without considering everything I already know."
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (The stars in the sky)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
Rren flushed brightly at that. "Well, obviously I am amazing," they said. All this while ducking their head, overwhelmed by the compliment, regardless of what they said.
ian_never_wrong: (My Work Stands Behind Me)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"Obviously," Ian agreed, patting their shoulder lightly.

Rren shook their head, clearing their throat and focusing on another piece of code. This one almost entirely stolen from the Soongs. "Something like this you may be able to integrate earlier than the rest, it just allows for some more efficient pathways."
ian_never_wrong: (Even Looking Up It Seems Dark)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"I see that, but wouldn't... one second," Ian swapped from their notes to a fresh "page" on their tablet and started typing, glancing back up occasionally until they had a neat little bit of code. They held it up. "Wouldn't this achieve the same end with less lines?"
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (The stars in the sky)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
Rren stared at it blankly, having to hold back from an almost instinctive 'no' and take the time to process. They had spent their entire life thinking of the Soongs as the pinnacle of what could be achieved with AIs that despite it being illogical, it had never occurred to them to even try to modify or rewrite anything from them. The code from the company that made them, from H'Naal, and even some of their earlier modifications sure, but not the Soongs work.

Their face screwed up as they went over the code and then they made a small sound and pinched the screen smaller and flicked a blank one up beside it. Ian's code was in a different programing language than any they were used to, but it was familiar enough they could work off it. They re-entered it, exactly as Ian had it without needing to look back at it, and then highlighted a line and modified it. "If you switch that line to a clause of this nature, the result is a couple lines longer, but it will likely integrate better once you have sentience on the table."
ian_never_wrong: (Happily working)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
Ian nodded. "This isn't my code at root," they admitted. "But it was declassified. And a good thing too. I did my Doctorate on this code. When I was recruited they wanted to classify my work to that point, but as the whole review board had seen it and it was peer reviewed..." Ian smiled a little. "But the parts that have been published are things I can use for this. And that includes Doctor Beckett's original code that was part of it. And I think he'd be happy it is being used this way."

Rren looked back at the code and gave a sort of distracted nod. Based on what they could see of the code, that seemed likely. It was not a large enough piece to really get to know the coders, but, it did provide a glimpse and they liked what they saw. "I am glad I have met you, Doctor. And... I think you really will be able to help your friend."
ian_never_wrong: (My Work Stands Behind Me)

"I am glad to get to know you. Both to help, and because I suspect we're going to be good friends as we get to know each other better."

From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
Rren nodded, pulling themself out of the distraction of digging through code. "I would like that," they said, nodding firmly. They swiped the second screen down to the padd, closing it. "And anything else you wish to know, I would be glad to share."
ian_never_wrong: (Oh do go on)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"We have not even scratched the surface of what I want to know," Ian said. Was that meant to be reassuring? Or threatening? Foreboding?
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (Show me the stars)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
"And that is why we will get along," Rren replied, almost excited about that, bringing another section of code up.

This bit mixed holoimaging into it, even if the image files themselves weren't pulled up and while the coding itself was neater, only a scan from H'Naal and tweaking from Rren, the change stamps on said changes told a story of just how many changes they had made before they were satisfied. "Hmm, this part has little to do with functionality and more to do with appearance, I would not be adverse to coming back to it later."

"It must be wonderful to have control over how you look just by understanding programing," Ian said, a bit wistfully.
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (The stars in the sky)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
Rren tilted their head. "Ah, what is the phrase, 'the grove is always greener?' I would have sacrificed all those customization to have a physical body again in those days, though not one like my original. It would not have been able to hold me entirely anymore, but I would have taken the appearance of it, as much as it did not suit me, if it had meant not being trapped."
ian_never_wrong: (My Intense Side)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"I suppose it us just the nature of life to always wish we could change parts of ourselves." Still... What Ian wouldn't give to be able to rewrite their own DNA.
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (The stars in the sky)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
"It is. And... I was fortunate I received the opportunity while I figured out who I was. Not many do." They fidgeted with their hands, uncertain what else they could say.

"And I am fortunate I had a friend with me who... ah... accepted whatever I decided on," they said finally, shrugging.
ian_never_wrong: (My Intense Side)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
Ian nodded. "Friends like that are amazing, and worth every headache they sometimes put us through," Ian said with deep warmth. They missed their friends from home so much. Especially Ben, given everything. It was so hard, some days. But they'd get Ben home. They would. Ian wouldn't allow anything but success.
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (The stars in the sky)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
Rren gave a small bit of a laugh at that and nodded firmly. "And Khell has caused many headaches. I... actually believe she takes pride in it."
ian_never_wrong: (Forward smile)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"Sounds like our friends would get along," Ian said. "Perhaps we should arrange for a celebration once we find a way for everyone to return home and then travel freely."

That everyone including Ben and Doctor Beckett.

From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
"I... would greatly enjoy that if it proves possible. But I am uncertain if we are from the same reality, and if we are, we are from vastly different times within it, when I left, the year by Earth counting would have been, hmmm, 2407." Not to mention they couldn't go back, but it felt like they'd already been through enough problems with that particular hypothetical.
ian_never_wrong: (My Intense Side)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"With science, anything is at least theoretically possible." And apparently time traveling forward.... They really needed to talk to Ben. And... maybe Janis. Maybe.
cheep_soongbird_knockoff: (The stars in the sky)
From: [personal profile] cheep_soongbird_knockoff
"Well, if it was just time travel, that is simple. Crossing realities is a bit more difficult than time travel. And when doing both it gets tricky rather quickly. Not that it is not possible, but it may be unwise." That did not stop them from wanting to meet Ian's friends and celebrate with them. At all.
ian_never_wrong: (OTS)
From: [personal profile] ian_never_wrong
"You have experience with actual time travel technology? Not just theoretical?" Ian asked, interested for certain.

"Not personally, but it happens frequently enough one of the governments has an entire department to check into what may have been changed whenever someone goes back in time either deliberately or accidentally. They do not look kindly on the former."
