Auradon

Oui Sports - Winter Edition

Sports are a great way to warm up on a cold day, but sadly all the outdoor sports Ben was ready to teach... Well none of them play so well in a foot plus of snow. And that foot plus was after getting help from those with magic who could melt some of it down for them. And when Mal was asked about winter sports on the Isle the answer was "It's more like... gang activity, than sports. And if someone broke their leg, we kinda laughed, so... Not really applicable here."

So they instead asked the Missrecalled to show off games and sports that can be played in deep snow. But the best games need more than one person, so maybe you need to find someone to play with?

Happy Little Cleaning Song

After so long with so many people all cramped into the school for so long that there was more than a little bit of mess. They could use a hand clearing everything up. Whistling while you work and a spoonful of sugar were both advised. But cleaning was always a better task with a buddy! And Team Work Makes The Dream Work, right?

The Isle

Gang Activities

What had once been a dank and dreary school in a mausoleum was now an icy dreary one. The ground outside was a mix of ice, muddy slush, and rocks. Neither fun nor pretty. But it was probably safer outside than in, and easier to be active dodging doomstones than skidding down the halls into broken lockers. But it was still frigid out. Perhaps some activity would help warm you up. But what? And whom with? Snowball fights might be a little extra dangerous, with all the muck mixed in and no place to go warm up. But maybe someone might be up for it anyway? Or stealing a doomstone to sled down the roof? What are you gonna do to stay warm?

Got No Chill?

Someone decided that there needed to be a fire to warm people up. Maybe that would have been a good idea, if the person who had started the fire had anything clue about fire safety. They - or maybe you! - had started the fire in one of the classrooms using broken desks for kindling. But the fire quickly spread to the other desks in the room and with so much paper detritus in the halls! Stop the fire, warn people, run away! Pick you poison but do it fast, the way this fire's spreading, this school might not last!

"The beginning is a logical place to start," he said.

"Alright. So apparently a little over twenty years ago this world split between the self proclaimed good people, and those they considered to be evil. They sent the people they thought to be bad to a prison isle locked away with no magic. The kingdoms of the good united under the banner of Auradon. Then two or three years ago, the young prince of Auradon who was about to be the crowned king made his first decree. He decreed that the children of the villains on the Isle should be given a chance to come to Auradon to learn how to be good. Over the last few years more and more kids have been trickling in, and the king even fell in love with the daughter of a villain."

She took a breath, knowing this part would be hard for most people from where they were from. "Maleficent's daughter is here. And she's become a strong force for good. She is on the side of Light, though her methods aren't always obvious that way."

"Hmm." Sephiroth wasn't sure what he thought of all of this. It sounded like it could lead to a lot of unfair judgments on people.

"The prince had the right idea," he said at last. "The children had nothing to do with what their parents did."

He did take a moment to process this. "Maleficent almost destroyed my world," he said darkly. But the daughter would have been innocent of that. He looked intrigued at the description of her. "I'd like to meet her daughter," he mused in a more pleasant tone.

"You will. She's the Queen here," she said with a small smile. Then the smile fell as she resumed the story.

"They were letting more children from the Isle come over and had a plan to give the adults a chance to earn a way to get off the Isle through good deeds. But then someone got their hands on a genie's lamp. They apparently wished that there wouldn't be so many people in Auradon. Well, they got their wish as everyone in Auradon - and the Isle - vanished except the genie herself. And that included whoever made the wish. The Genie, desperate, used her power to bring back the King, the Queen, and a few of the stronger wizards. Yen Sid and Merlin. They argued about how to fix things, because she couldn't just undo a wish so easily. But while they were all arguing and debating both the Genie and Merlin decided to just try on their own there was a backlash that knocked the Genie out and started drawing people from different times and realities here to repopulate the world."

That was an interesting surprise.

Sephiroth listened to the rest of the story with a frown. "And no one knows where the people who are supposed to be here went? Maybe they ended up in worlds such as ours."

"No, we don't know for sure. We're still looking into it. However our ability to do so is limited."

"Don't the King and Queen and the magicians remember where they were sent, at least?" Sephiroth asked.

"Oddly, the Queen seems to remember being to other hub worlds, actually. But the King has not said as much."

"And none of what she remembers is helpful?" Sephiroth frowned.

"Not in any way I've been able to see how to use."

Sephiroth sighed. "Has there been any positive progress at all?"

"Sadly, no," she admitted. "And the spell had other effects. Mostly, we're fighting the side effects enough to survive."

This was very bad. "What side effects?" Would he be affected too?

"I have knowledge of portals," he said. "If we could figure out how to circumvent the curse and open one, we might be able to bring in more supplies."

"Portals can be opened here, but don't seem to go where they are meant to. As to other side effects, no one and apparently no devices can fly 4 feet above whatever surface they start from, and there are blockades both here and on the Isle that are hard to get past. When the snow clears we can show you what we've cleared so far."

"Have you tried getting supplies and help from them anyway, or is it too dangerous to pass through one in such unstable conditions?" he asked.

A wing flicked in his annoyance. So he wouldn't be able to fly, apparently.

"What are the blockades made of?" he wondered.

"They don't connect to anywhere where there would be supplies. As for the blockades... On the isle thorn walls that look very much like something Maleficent's castle had been surrounded by. Here it is a mix of things, cars billboards fallen trees... all harder to move than they would seem to be."

A resigned sigh. Of course they wouldn't. And of course the blockades would be difficult.

"So they've magically gained weight?" This was truly a bizarre curse, although he supposed he had heard of worse.

"More like they've become oddly interlocked. It took us ages to get to the harbor, and now that it is clear it is an easy enough walk for those of us in good shape. Though one section did seem to open more easily, but Mallia is the one to talk to about that, as she discovered it."

Sephiroth nodded slowly. Odd indeed.

"Who is Mallia?" he asked.

Aqua nodded to the woman in purple by the window. "Her name is Mallia, she's the one who has been making all the food for us. She's very kind, though sometimes she seems to enjoy being difficult to understand."

Cloud would probably say the same thing about Sephiroth enjoying being difficult to understand.

"How do you mean?" he asked.

"When you talk to her, you'll understand. But she is a genuinely good person. She's also kind, sweet, and giving," she said warmly, smiling.

"You're fortunate to have her," Sephiroth said. "She's another of the people brought from somewhere else?"

She nodded. "She's one of the Missrecalled like the rest of us. The only ones you are likely to meet in Auradon who are natives are King Ben and Queen Mal. There is also a version of Merlin around somewhere, but we were not able to contact him before the snows. On the Isle are Master Yen Sid, Lady Tremaine, and two others I have not yet met. But as with Merlin, they are not the versions we might know."

"You're sure they are not?" Sephiroth wondered. He assumed magicians traveled to many realms, as he did.
