Mal stumbled to a stop. After getting past the knee jerk reaction to his very very twitch inducing clothing, she took in the rest of him.
The burn scars. The complexion. She swallowed hard. She knew about other worlds now, about alternates. Was there a world where she was male and had horrible taste in hair and clothes?
Okay, probably not. But an alternate reality where she had more relatives than she did here? Quite possible indeed. So... was this some alternate reality brother who had really really ticked their mom off...? Or just the worlds' idea of a sick joke and a coincidence? One way to find out, she supposed.
"They don't, but I do." She kept her voice cool, her eyes guarded. She tapped into a part of herself usually best left sleeping. If he was related to her... and to her mother... he could be powerful, dangerous. She had to be prepared.
Then again, he was petting a bird like a princess, so there was the slightest chance she was overreacting.
